Textured Crop

The textured crop is the short, choppy, intentionally messy crop — short throughout (4-6 cm typically), point-cut so the ends are uneven and textured. Distinct from the clean precision of a classic crew cut or French crop, the textured crop reads modern and undone rather than formal. It went mainstream around 2018-2020 across all gender presentations.

It flatters oval, heart, and square faces — strong bone structure carries it, and the choppy texture softens square jaws by breaking up the silhouette. Straight, wavy, and curly textures all wear it; the cut adapts to whatever natural pattern is there. The textured crop is the cut to ask for when you want short hair without the precision-cut aesthetic of a barbershop classic.

Low daily maintenance — finger-style with a small amount of texturizing paste or pomade, two to three minutes. Trim every five weeks to keep the texture sharp. The textured crop is the modern descendant of the 1990s grunge-era short cut and the 2010s pixie revival; it has stayed in rotation across most of Western styling since 2015. Specify 'short, choppy, and textured throughout' — generic 'short cut' might produce a clean crew cut, which is the opposite vibe.
